Information reaching Naija Gossips has it that the
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan ahs sacked the State Commissioner
for Finance, Chief Benard Okumagba of the Okumagba dynasty from the Okere-Urhobo
Kingdom.
The sack of Chief Okumagba is coming on the heels of
the Ijaw/Itsekiri crisis that has left no fewer than 4 persons dead.
As at the time of filing in this report, it was not
certain if other Commissioners in the cabinet are affected by the move of the
Governor but it was gathered from one of the commissioners in the State cabinet
that other commissioners especially from the Urhobo ethnicity are jittery over
an impending sack.
All attempts to reach the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor as
well as the State Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah proved abortive as
SMS sent to their phones proved abortive but a statement by the Secretary to
the State Government, Ovuozourie Macaulay, who referred to the sack of Okumagba
as a minor cabinet re-shuffle, stated that “Mr. Ken Okpara, Commissioner for
Economic Planning, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Finance to replace
Mr. Bernard Okumagba who has been dropped from the State Executive Council.”The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Planning is to take charge of the running of the affairs in the Ministry until a new commissioner is appointed, the statement adds.
Also, the Commissioner for Special Duties in charge of the State Liaison Office, Abuja, Comrade Gloria Okolugbo, has been directed to return to Asaba, the state capital for reassignment as the state’s Head of Service is to post a Director to head the office forthwith.
The statement also announced that “the Overseas Development Agency currently in the Ministry of Economic Planning has now been returned to the Ministry of Finance, its original base.”
