Information reaching Naija Gossips has it that
counsel to the alleged victim involved in the DELSU Rape Saga; Bar Anuku
Oghene-Menshach would be dragged before the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA)
Ethics Committee.
It was gathered that following what it termed as “unscrupulous
practice”, Delta Women NGO, a group which took up the case promising to fight
the matter to the latter, was involved in what has been described as a war of
words with Bar Anuku over a purported civil settlement of the incident. As a
result of the said war of words, the NGO petitioned Bar Anuku before the NBA
questioning his ethical standard as a lawyer.
Speaking to a source within the Ughelli branch of
the NBA where Anuku is a member, the source who confided in Naija Gossips
stated that the chapter received the letter yesterday (5th July) and
as such, the petition would be forwarded to the Ethics Committee of the NBA during
their next sitting and if the need arises, the lawyer in question and other
parties involved would be invited to appear before the committee of which if
found wanting, the lawyer (Bar Anuku) would be sanctioned.
It would be recalled that following an alleged rape
incident involving a lecturer of the Theater Arts Department of the Delta State
University, Abraka, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwu
Raphael and a 400level female student (name witheld) of the same
department and university, a case of kidnap was initiated at the Abraka Police
Station by Mr. Ifeanyi alleging that he was kidnapped after he was indicted via
a jungle justice by some students who later posted his nude pictures on the
internet. As a result of this, the female student was declared wanted and only
reported herself six days after the incident at the police station where she
was detained till the next day.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Ughelli
Police Command were the alleged victim resides, it was at the Ughelli Police
Command that Bar Anuku in connivance with counsel to Mr. Ifeanyi opted for a civil settlement.
Meanwhile copies of the petition were also made
available to the Warri and Asaba branch of the NBA.
